Former 73rd Postmaster General of the United States (2010–2015) with a 39‑year USPS career starting in 1975; prior role as Deputy Postmaster General. As a result of frequent communication with Congressional leaders, we have modified important parts of our five-year comprehensive business plan, including the pace of consolidation of mail processing facilities, to give Congress maximum flexibility to make needed legislative changes.

If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 29th in the 2010 Fortune 500. We are currently losing $25 million per day, we have defaulted on $11.1 billion in Treasury payments and exhausted our borrowing authority. Donahoe pledged to work together with its PCC partners to make the mailing industry stronger, more compelling and more profitable.

A much-anticipated highlight of the annual event, the awards presentation recognized outstanding achievements of PCCs around the country.

In 1977, he earned a B.S. degree in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh, followed by an M.S. degree as a Sloan Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Donahoe first joined the Postal Service as a clerk in Pittsburgh in 1975. He oversees an agency that has about 580,000 employees in more than 33,000 facilities, delivering nearly half the world’s mail and with an annual revenue of $68 billion.

Donahoe grew up in Whitehall, Pennsylvania.

With 32,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com®, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $65 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world’s mail. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency six consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.

About Patrick R. Donahoe

Independent Chair of the Board at Postal Realty Trust (PSTL); age 69; director since 2019. We moved to reduce hours at many of our Post Offices. Over the past two years we have reduced head count by approximately 60,000 career employees.

“We must reduce our annual costs by $20 billion by 2015 to be profitable, and we do not currently have the flexibility in our business model to achieve these cost reductions.”

Donahoe praised postal employees for their hard work to bring about incredible cost savings while at the same time achieving record levels of service.

In 2011, Oxford Strategic Consulting ranked the U.S. Postal Service number one in overall service performance of the posts in the top 20 wealthiest nations in the world. He attended Pittsburgh’s South Hills Catholic High School and held a job at White Cross Drug Store. (by Chris Dolan, Post and Parcel)

We will continue to work with leaders of our House and Senate oversight committees and all members of Congress to help make this happen.”
