It is important that some sort of assessment occurs at the end of any unit.

Life Map Example

Once these maps are finished, each student will provide a written explanation of his or her map and then create an oral presentation on it to give to classmates. Total Points for Deadline 2 = 293 points Deadline 3:: Friday, May 15, 2009 Pages turned in on time – 10 points Letters N-Z: Each page will be given up to 20 points for a correct title (5 points) (and large alphabet letter), a well-written paragraph (10 points) containing five sentences and sticking to topic, and a picture (5 points) included on each page.

They take their clipboards to make notes from the timeline to help them complete the information for the flipbook.

    This assignment works well with any biographies, memoirs, and autobiographies. When we look at the history of an individual, the compiled data about that individual written out thoughtfully is a biography.

    I can’t tell you how awesome it is to get those “lightbulb” moments!

    They can read an article that I provide, get information from a book, or research the person on a safe search site. They are a great way to get our students to really focus on what’s important and what they want to include in their presentations.     For example, if we are focusing on Amelia Earheart, I create a huge timeline that goes around my classroom. This helps students better able to identify with the life of the person they are studying.
