This festival of light and water (on the Arizona Canals) quickly grew in attendance from 10,000 to more than 100,000 people annually. During his ten-year tenure, WPAS created 30 new outreach programs, a groundbreaking arts education initiative with Chancellor Michelle Rhee and the DC Public Schools (including co-authoring a new curriculum for DCPS), helped launch a new concert hall, tripled education programs to reach 80,000 school children a year, presented over 100 artist debuts at the Kennedy Center, accumulated $4M in operating reserves, and increased the endowment.

In addition, his office ran the International Kapell Piano Festival and Competition and presented concerts at the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, and Carnegie Hall. As a singer, he has sung with many of England's finest choral ensemble including English Concert, Polyphony and The Cambridge Singers, culminating in 15 years as second baritone within The King's Singers.
During his final two years of high school, he studied at the Manhattan School of Music Prep Department. His father played the mandolin and organ, his brother played the organ as well, and Neale vividly remembers the special moment in fifth grade when he received his first cello.
Mr. Perl went on to earn performance degrees in cello from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University and Temple University. As such, he oversees three components of Scottsdale arts: The Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts and Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, both located in the complex at 7380 E Second St. in Scottsdale; and the Scottsdale Public Art program, with installations located throughout the city.
“I am so excited to be only the third director of this great organization,” says Neale.
The organization created the signature arts event for the city, Canal Convergence. Both organizations also showed significant increases in size and scope as well as in visibility. In both institutions, he prided himself on creating partnerships and collaborations across geographic, economic and art genre lines. “Neale Perl was instrumental in developing and implementing an effective integrative organizational structure, a new strategic plan and a rebranding of the entire organization.”
Former Scottsdale Arts Board of Trustees Chair Mike Miller, who spent 11 years as President and CEO at Scottsdale Insurance Company, has been named Interim CEO.
Miller was on the Scottsdale Arts board for nine years.Natalie Marsh has been appointed Interim Chief of Operations and will be responsible for daily operations in addition to her ongoing responsibilities as Director of Education and Outreach.
The Board of Trustees has formed a search committee to pursue a permanent CEO.Wills will chair the search committee.No timetable has been established to complete the search.
Wills said that under Neale’s leadership, “Scottsdale Arts achieved significant success in a number of areas including increased attendance at Canal Convergence, SMoCA and the Center for Performing Arts.In addition, Scottsdale Arts received several national awards and increased support from both the City of Scottsdale and the Community.
