He was at Khaprelbazar in Midnapur town of West Bengal. During the kirtans those who used to be present would transcend into a state where the mind or time did not exist…this was pure bliss and nourishment to the minds and consciousness of the Bhaktas. How did I become so important, and why? You don't have to search for the divine, he himself will seek and come to you, from your side just surrender to the divine will and keep your self ready for his arrival.” This was what he defined as Sadhana….waiting with hope for the arrival of the divine.
Thereafter, he joined the Scottish Church College in Calcutta for his graduate studies and stayed in the Ogilvie Hostel.
A significant aspect of Maharaj-ji's spirituality was his selfless surrender and subtle devotion to his Gurudev Shri Shri Balananda Brahmachari Maharaj. He used to read the Bhagvad…he had a kartal made of silver…a kartal made of gold and he used to do kirtan.
So he said ‘I have an idea.
He had assured his devotees that the Guru cannot rest until each and every disciple reaches salvation. He dedicated himself to the work and wishes of his Gurudev who had inspired him the most.
Maharaj-ji sang kirtans and bhajans regularly, to him singing or kirtan was direct medium of commune with the divine.
He studied at C.M.S School of Bhagalpur, and on English Medium School of Dhanbad. He insisted that social service needs to be performed with an attitude to serve and needs to be carried out silently and with due humility. His parents, a devout Brahmin couple, Binayani Devi and Hemachandra Bandopadhaya were devotees and disciples of Sri Balananda Brahmachari, a great saint who had taken up residence in the temple town of Deoghar in Bihar province.
Nobody even asked, or paid much attention, but we were happy within ourselves; we would go to Ma, Ma is there, and I would enjoy mixing with other devotees, enjoying the atmosphere, an atmosphere of sheer joy. They all came to him in Calcutta, used to come and meet and greet him; later they found out that he was in Anandamayi Ashram, and they all came to see him.”

About Sri Mohanananda Brahmachari Maharaj
Sri Mohanananda Brahmachari Maharaj, almost universally addressed as Maharaj, was a major spiritual force in India and abroad for over six decades from 1937 till 1999.
He took birth on 17 December 1904 in the town of Midnapore in Bengal province.
I saw that if there should be a sadhu, he should be like him.
His love for Shri Krishna or the divine was reflective in his profound love and affection for humanity. Finally, he left the hostel on September 9, 1921 and travelled to the Deoghar ashram of Sri Balananda Brahmachari.
Over the next three weeks, Sri Balananda Brahmachari thoroughly tested the resolve of young Sri Manamohan and, after obtaining the consent of his parents as well, admitted him to the monastic life as Sri Mohanananda Brahmachari.
Then Mohanananda came to our Calcutta ashram. He lives today amongst us in the collective consciousness of the devotees and continues to make his presence felt to those who are prepared and ready for him. To him Shri Radhika was an epitome of bhakti and pure love for the divine. He studied intermediate in Scottish Church College and stayed in Oglive Hostel.[2]

Gurudev Sri Sri Mohanananda Bramhachari Maharaj exemplified such divinity and boundless charisma, so much so that those who came in his proximity were overwhelmed by sheer joy or Ananda.
He said your near ones can disown you for some reason but as a Guru I can never disown you and I will be there life after life seeking you and guiding you through to your salvation.
