Olanrewaju Adesina Hassan is her real full name but widely called Lanre Hassan or Iya Awero.

After the death of Baba Mero in 1978, the group was renamed Awada Kerikeri, under the leadership of Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello).

She has almost 30 years of acting experience. She hails and spent most of his early life in Lagos Island, Lagos State, which falls in the Southwestern part of Nigeria. The group later became Ojo Ladipo Theatre Group. She is noted for playing motherly roles in films.  In the 2018 movie “King of Boy,” which was helmed by one of Nigeria’s top female directors, Kemi Adetiba, Lanre Hassan starred as “Iya Loja.”

Aliu Hassan Adesina, who passed away roughly 15 years ago, was Iya Awero’s husband.

Lanre Hassan Career

Hassan joined the Young Stars Concert Party (drama group) at the age of 14, with the likes of Ojo Ladipo (a.k.a Baba Mero) and Adebayo Salami. Before Iya Awero started acting, she went to the School of Drama where she was trained in the profession.

Career

While still in secondary school, Lanre Hassan started her acting career with the well-known Ojo Ladipo theatre group.

After which she was given a direct entry to the Centre for Cultural Studies at the University of Lagos to go and study Theatre Arts (diploma). She has featured in dozens of stage plays, television dramas, and films, many of which remain cultural touchstones.

Her performances are lauded for their authenticity and emotional truth, qualities that have made her a role model for upcoming actors.

Her enduring screen name, “Iya Awero”, came from a beloved character she portrayed on stage and television, a role that defined her image as the quintessential mother figure.
