International Career

Hernández made his debut for the Mexico national team in 2009. Despite scoring several important goals, including the decisive strike against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final, he failed to establish himself as a regular starter.

Stint at Bayer Leverkusen

After his loan spell at Real Madrid, Hernández signed a permanent deal with Bayer Leverkusen in July 2015.

He quickly made an impact, scoring his first goal in a pre-season friendly against the MLS All-Stars.

Notably, he became the first player to represent three generations of his family in the World Cup when his grandfather and father also played in the prestigious competition.
