Unlike the vote regarding the merger itself, the shareholder vote was only advisory — meaning approval was not necessary for the merger to happen or the bonuses to be paid out.
Shareholders approved the compensation — but were far less enthusiastic about it than the overall merger.
Votes representing 36.7 million shares were cast in favor of the compensation, compared to 16.4 million votes against and 1.3 votes in abstention.
The company also has a banking operation, World's Foremost Bank.
Georgia-based Synovus Financial has agreed to purchase World's Foremost Bank.
