A Very Brief William Shakespeare Biography

   To his surviving daughter Judith, he left £300, and to his wife Anne left "my second best bed." William Shakespeare allegedly died on his birthday, April 23, 1616. At one time Shakespeare had been a lodger in Christopher Mountjoy’s house in Cripplegate, and now Mountjoy was being sued by his son-in-law, Stephen Bellott for defaulting on a promised marriage settlement.

   Children of public officials received free tuition. This is not a watertight argument though because Italian literature would have been widely read at the time.
