In World War II, the Handley Page Hampden and Halifax bombers played major roles in the reduction of German industry and the eventual economic collapse of the Third Reich.
Handley Page was again at the forefront with his Victor four-jet bomber as England moved into the nuclear delivery role after World War II.
From 1909, until his death, 63 different aircraft types bore the name Handley Page.
He is also known for his invention, with Gustav Lachmann, of the leading edge slot to improve the stall characteristics of aircraft wings. The latter was the flagship of the Imperial Airways fleet between the wars and remarkable at the time for having been involved in no passenger deaths. This company later became Imperial Airways.

Frederick Handley Page was born in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire on 15 November 1885, the second son of Frederick Joseph Page (b.

Handley Page's design brilliance was manifested first in the 0/400 heavy bomber that flew in 1917 and later in the V/1500.
After finishing his technical training, he worked in the field of electrical engineering. The V/1500's four engines provided the astonishing bomb load of six and one-half tons and an endurance of twelve hours.
Recognizing the long-range transport value of large aircraft, Handley Page founded Handley Page Transport, Limited in 1919 and with it opened routes to Paris and Amsterdam.
As England moved into the nuclear delivery role after World War II, Handley-Page was again at the forefront of technology with his Victor four-jet bomber. His mother Ann was born in Southsea, Portsmouth, Hampshire in 1854. These, along with a broad variety of technical innovations such as his slotted wing, contributed immeasurably to the rapid development of the British aviation and aerospace industry until his death in 1963.
Frederick Handley Page is also recognized as an educator, advocating in the strongest terms, the value of sound technical training as the foundation for industrial success.

His company Handley Page Limited was best known for its large aircraft such as the Handley Page 0/400 and Halifax bombers and the H.P.42 airliner.
He was educated at Cheltenham Grammar School. 1854 in Cheltenham) , a furniture maker/dealer in Cheltenham and member of the Plymouth Brethren.
Recognizing the long-range transport value of large aircraft, Handley-Page founded Handley Page Transport, Ltd. in 1919, and opened routes to Paris and Amsterdam. In 1902, against his parents' wishes, he moved to London to study electrical engineering at Finsbury Technical College. Turning to the study of flight, in 1909 he founded the first English company devoted solely to aviation, Handley Page, Ltd.
Handley-Page's design brilliance was manifested in the 0/400 twin-engine heavy bomber which flew in 1918.
