Born on January 2, 1920, in Petrovichi, Russia, he immigrated to the United States with his family when he was just a toddler, settling in Brooklyn, New York.
He eventually became a professor at the university by the late 1970s, though by that time he'd given up full-time teaching to do occasional lectures.

Who Was Isaac Asimov?
Isaac Asimov immigrated with his family from Russia to the United States and became a biochemistry professor while pursuing writing.
He subsequently pursued a Master’s degree and a Ph.D. His first marriage ended in divorce in 1973. in biochemistry from the same institution, demonstrating his dedication to academia. For instance, the film adaptation of "I, Robot" featuring Will Smith brought renewed attention to his original stories, resulting in increased sales and licensing opportunities.
He embraced environmental issues, and supported feminism, joking that he wished women to be free "because I hate it when they charge". He died on April 6, 1992, in Boston, Massachussets, and was cremated. Nixon's resignation preserved his pension and numerous perquisites, and I was not impressed by the argument that it had spared the nation an ordeal.
He was the oldest of three children. "I, Robot," released in 1950, established Asimov as a visionary in science fiction. I don't even have a literary agent. He also has a blog of "random thoughts on one of the world's most prolific authors".
