Tatiana Schlossberg Has Died At 35 Her death comes a month after she revealed in an essay published in The New Yorker that she had acute myeloid leukemia. But to hear Damion Searls tell it in this absorbing new biography, Hermann Rorschach was a different sort altogether: humane, empathic, loving, deeply sane, and possessed of a true artist's soul.
In fact, the subject is encouraged to feel that all answers are good answers.

Our Beauty Writer’s Top 25 Products Welcome to my Beauty Closet. By the time Rorschach was a qualified doctor, psychoanalysis, with its emphasis on the unseen, on buried urges and repressed desires, was captivating thinkers well outside of Freud’s Vienna. And as the subject proceeds to describe what he or she sees on the cards, the examiner carefully records their remarks.
We can still see this desire to be understood at play when even the silliest personality test on BuzzFeed goes viral, millions eager to find the answer to, “Which Seinfeld character areyou?”Rorschach, who showed his images to hundreds of patients at the Krombach psychiatric hospital, sorted their answers into three basic categories: Form, Movement, and Color.
In those years, it was common for students to study at multiple universities before returning to their home university for their degree. Academic battles have raged over differing Rorschach philosophies. American psychologists in Nuremberg administered it to Nazi war criminals, trying to find the key to the “Nazi mind.” (They couldn’t.) American anthropologists like Cora Du Bois visited remote villages in places like Bali, giving the natives there the Rorschach test and diligently recording their answers, searching for clarity on the question of how culture shapes personality.
And even as research on human psychology has raced ahead, as high-tech machines have arrived to examine the human brain in ways never before possible, there is something about these Rorschach images that keeps them in psychology’s armament still.

Biography of Hermann Rorschach
Early LifeHermann Rorschach was born in 1884 in Zurich, Switzerland.
Regardless, Hermann developed a deep interest in psychiatry during his studies at the University of Zurich. Searls’s account of Rorschach’s afterlife is no less fascinating, as every culture that encountered his test seemed to project its own values onto it. Doctors later regretted that if Hermann had sought help earlier for his abdominal pain, he could have been saved.
The thing about it was this: The test worked. The extent to which a subject favored one kind of answer more than another went into Rorschach’s careful scoring system, from which he could create a psychological profile. But the ten images that Rorschach ultimately emerged with, in 1918, are the exact same ten images we still know today as the Rorschach test.
After Rorschach's early death, his test quickly made its way to America, where it took on a life of its own. However, fate had a different plan.
