A year later, on July 19, 1928, at the age of twenty-six, Fermi married Laura Capon, now twenty-one.

When picked as the winner of the competition, it meant four years of education with no cost to the Fermi family. The house was near the railroad station at the villa Gaeta, Number 19. Segrè was the son of a paper mill owner near Rome and was an engineering student went he first heard of Fermi.
