His status as reciter was somewhat official: he held the titleShaykh al-Maqâri, and his opinions were frequentlysolicited and quoted by the media. A serial, “Imam Al Moqr’ine”, starring Hassan Youssef, was dedicated to Al Hussary’s life and performances. He was also supervising recitation centers of Al Gharbia province. He started reciting at public gatherings by age 12 and enrolled for training at the acclaimed al-Badawi Mosque in Tanta.
He later joined Al-Azhar University in Cairo and obtained a diploma in "al-Qira'at al-'Ashr" ('the ten recitations'), which are the ten canonical methods of reciting the Quran according to different schools of thought.
As one of the four top-ranking reciters in Egypt, he recorded the complete Qur'ânic text in both styles of recitation, murattal and mujawwad and was the first to record and broadcast the murattal style. He was then appointed as a reciter at the Ahmad al-Badawi Mosque in Tanta and later at the Al-Hussein Mosque in Cairo, where he remained in service for 29 years until his death.
Al-Hussary was the first Qari to record and broadcast the entire Quran in both styles of recitation, murattal (tarteel) and mujawwad (tajwid).
In 1944, he entered the official radio station as reciter where he made his first recitation on 16 February 1944. He was the reciter at the well-known Ahmadî mosque there. He came from a religious family and showed a remarkable talent for Quran memorization and recitation from a young age. He is widely regarded as a master of Quran recitation and a source of inspiration and guidance for Muslims.

Al-Hussary died on November 24, 1980, during a trip to Kuwait, where he was invited to recite the Quran at a mosque.

He also studied and taught Hadith, Fiqh, and Tafsir at Al-Azhar.

Early Life and Education
Al-Hussary was born on September 17, 1917, in a village called Shobra al-Namla in the Gharbia Governorate of Egypt.
He was also the first president of the Quran Reciters Union and a prominent scholar and teacher of Al-Azhar University.
In 1949, Mahmoud Khalil Al Hussary was appointed reciter of Sidi Ahmed Al Badaoui of Tanta , of Al Ahmadi Mosque and then of Al Imam Al Hussein Mosque in Cairo by 1955.
At 8, he had alreadymemorized the whole Qur'ân and at 12, he entered to the religiousinstitute and learned the ten qira'aat in al-Azhar University.
When he was twenty-five years of age he went to Tanta and establishedhimself as a reciter.
