Physical Appearance

Salih is described as a tall man, standing at 5 feet 11 inches (180 cm).

He was the noble Shaykh Hamud ibn Sulayman Al-Talal, who was later made a judge in the town of Dariyyah in the region of Al-Qassim.

He later studied at the state school when it opened in Al-Shamasyah in 1369 A.H. He completed his primary studies at the Faysaliyyah School in Buraydah in 1371 A.H., and was then appointed as a primary school teacher.

He is also a member of the Committee for Supervision of the Callers in Hajj, and a member of the Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta’. He began his education at Al-Faysaliyyah School in Buraydah, where he studied basic subjects along with the Quran. Over the years, he became one of the most respected voices in Islamic law and education.

In October 2025, at the age of 90, he was appointed as the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, the highest religious authority in the Kingdom.

Under his guidance, Shaikh al-Fawzan has gained valuable expertise in Sharia, learning to respond to Fatwas with firmness and consistency while ensuring accuracy and correctness. He then returned to teaching there after his period of headship came to an end. He was born on 28 September 1935 in Ash-Shamsiyyah, a small village in the Al-Qassim Province.

Growing up in a family that valued religion and education, he was encouraged to pursue knowledge and dedicate his life to serving Islam.

The Al-Fawzan family name is well recognized in Saudi Arabia, especially in the central region. He grew up in ash-Shimasiyyah, in Qassim, where his family nurtured him. This area of study is one of the most detailed and technical branches of Islamic jurisprudence, requiring a strong command of both mathematics and legal principles.

He is also the Imam, preacher, and teacher at the Prince Mut’ib Ibn ‘Abdul-‘Aziz Mosque in Al-Malz.

He participates in responding to questions on the radio program Nur ‘Ala Al-Darb. He also supervises numerous academic theses written by higher-education students at Saudi universities. The program made him accessible to millions of listeners, strengthening his role as a guide for the public.

In October 2025, at the age of 90, al-Fawzan reached the peak of his career when he was appointed as the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia.

Broadcast weekly for several years, the program explored ten volumes of Ibn Taymiyya's Fatwas before it eventually came to an end.
