Mark Gerard Miles was born on 13 May 1967 in Gibraltar, Great Britain.

He was ordained a priest on 14 September 1996, and incardinated in the diocese of Gibraltar.

He graduated in canon law and was awarded a licentiate in theology.

He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on 1 July 2003, and served at the pontifical representations in Ecuador and Hungary and in the Section for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State.

On 31 August 2019 he was appointed as Holy See Permanent Observer at the Organisation of American States (O.A.S.).

He knows English, Italian, Spanish and French.

Miles attended the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in Rome and has had postings with the Secretariat of State of the Holy See in Ecuador and Hungary.

Monsignor Mark Miles, who is a Priest of the Diocese of Gibraltar and currently serving at the Vatican Secretariat of State, has been appointed by the Holy Father, Pope Francis, as Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the Organization of American States.

The aim of this Organization is to build an order of peace and justice on the American continent, promote solidarity, development and cooperation among the States of the region, support democracy and protect human rights.

On hearing of the good news, Bishop Zammit said: “We congratulate Mgr. Miles on such a prestigious appointment. Francesco Viscome and the distinguished Dr.

Juan Antonio Cruz Serrano was born on 29 September 1976 in María, province of Almería, Spain.

He was ordained a priest on 15 September 2001, and incardinated in the diocese of Almería.

He graduated in canon law.

He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on 1 July 2004, and served in the pontifical representations in Zimbabwe, Ireland, and Chile, and at the Section for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State.

He knows English, Italian, French and German.

The Holy Father has appointed the distinguished Dr.

Catia Summaria as promotor of justice of the Vatican City State Court of Appeal, and Msgr. Mark Gerard Miles, nunciature counsellor, as apostolic nuncio in Benin, at the same time elevating him to the titular see of Città Ducale, with the dignity of archbishop.

Apostolic Nuncio in Benin, Togo Transferred, to Represent the Holy Father in Costa Rica

Pope Francis has transferred Archbishop Mark Gerard Miles to the Vatican Diplomatic Mission in Costa Rica.

The Papal transfer of Archbishop Miles, who has been serving as Apostolic Nuncio in Benin and Togo was made public on Tuesday, July 8 and published by the Holy See Press Office.

The 57-year-old native of Gibraltar was ordained Priest in September 1996.

He started the diplomatic service of the Holy See in July 2003.

The Vatican diplomat holds a licentiate in Theology and Canin Law. He has previously served at the pontifical representations in Ecuador and Hungary as well as in the Section for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State.

Considered fluent in English, Spanish, and Italian, and with a working knowledge of French, Archbishop Miles routinely acted as translator for Pope Francis during his visits to countries around the globe.
