In one year he would teach all six books himself and great Ulama would participate in this. He is from among the descendents of Hadhrat Abu Ayyub Ansari (Radiyallahu Anhu). He was arrested and sent to Saharanpur jail from where he was shifted to Muzaffarnagar. Six months were passed in jail. When Hadhrat Maulana felt that he had diagnosed what the sickness was and what the cure was, he went and presented his findings to his uncle.

When Hafiz Zamin Shaheed fell on the battle ground, he picked up his corpse, took it to a mosque nearby, and sitting near it, started reading the Quran.
After the re-counter of Shamli a warrant of arrest was issued against him. He was the father of Maulana Yaqub Nanotwi (Rahmatullahi Alayhi) who was the first Sadr Mudarris (head teacher) of Darul Uloom Deoband.

Although reports vary, Gangohi is said to have died on Friday, August 11, 1905 after the Adhaan (call to prayers) for Jumu'ah (Friday prayers), aged seventy-six.

Early Life
Imam Rabbani Shaykh Rashid Ahmad Gangohi was born on Monday, 6th Ziqa'da, A.H.

1242, at Gangoh, Dist Saharanpur, UP, India. Hadhrat Maulana Rashid Ahmad (Rahmatullahi Alayhi) was born in 1244 AH (1826) and he passed away on 1323 AH corresponding with 1905. You don’t worry about who will come to you and who won’t come to you. Allah Ta’ala says that Allah has made the night a deputy of the day.

What he forgot to do in the day he can do it in the night for that person who wants to make zikr or for that person who wants to express shukr.

One of his famous compilations is Fataawa Rashidiyyah. As a result he decided to go to Thana Bhavan and debate them with the author. When Zamin Shaheed was martyred, Gangohi picked up his corpse, carried it to a nearby masjid (mosque), and sitting nearby, started to recite the Qur'an.

It was also common for graduates of the madrasah to attend Rashid Ahmad's hadith lectures in Gangoh.

In 1297 AH, after the death of Qasim, Rashid was made sarparast (patron) of Darul Uloom Deoband. There many prisoners became his adherents with the result that they all began to say prayers congregationally in the prison.

Teaching of Hadith
After his release from jail, he started teaching.

Hadhrat Maulana served the line of Fataawa very diligently and responsibly. In excess of three thousand shaykhs attained religious knowledge from him. He was especially close to Abdul Ghani, who took on a fatherly role for him. Haji Imdadullah wrote Gangohi a letter enquiring after his spiritual condition, to which he replied:

Shariyat ab Tabiyat ban gayi hai...( Shariyat is now my Nature).
Tarif karne wale aur burai karne wale Yaksa ho gaye...(Praisers and critics are the same to me).
Kisi sharayi masle me koi ishkal nahi raha....(There is no doubt in any religious matter).

On receipt of this letter, Haji Imdadullah put it on his head and said , "I have have still not achieved this condition".

Thereafter, Gangohi started to teach a variety of subjects in Gangoh where he remained until 1300 AH.

From 1301 AH, his preoccupation was with the hadith. From A. H. 1314 he agreed to be the patron of Madrasah Mazahirl Uloom Saharanpur also. However, this was not the response of Hadhrat Maulana. Thereafter, a warrant was issued for his arrest. Both of these Darul Ulooms were blessed with the guidance of these two great luminaries of Islam.
