He studied some books by Qadî Ahmadud-dîn Panjâbî (رحمه الله) for a few days after which he presented himself in the service of Moulânâ Mamlûk ‘Alî Sâhib. It is the effect of Mawlana Rashid Ahmad’s company that I followed his maslak in such a way that I never even contemplated moving away from it. He alone would teach the entire Siha Sittah and the duroos of hadith would commence in Shawwaal and be completed by Sha'baan.

After taking the pledge, he began making dhikr. he used to rise for Tahajjud. In excess of three thousand shaykhs attained religious knowledge from him. However it would suffice to mention some of his outstanding students as a measure of his perfection. When he prepared to leave for Gangoh, Imdadullah held his hand and gave him permission to take disciples.

While Nanautawi and Gangohi are often mentioned as co-founders of Darul Uloom Deoband, Rizvi writes that there is no historical evidence that Gangohi played a role in its establishment in 1283 AH.

However, due to his close relationship with Nanautawi and others involved, it is unlikely that he was unaware of its founding. Even during his old-age he was punctual in all his devotions to such an extent that observers used to have pity for him. From 1314 AH he was also sarparast of the Darul Uloom's sister madrasah, Mazahir Uloom Saharanpur.

He died on a Friday, 8 Jumada II 1323 AH (1905 AD) after the adhan (call to prayer) of Jumuah prayer.

In 1261 A.H.

he travelled to Delhi in search of knowledge. In the biographical work Nuzhat al-Khawatir he is mentioned with the nisbats "al-Anṣārī, al-Ḥanafī, ar-Rāmpūrī then al-Gangohī". He was born in 1244 AH, and learnt from Mawlana Mamluk ‘Ali [Nanautwi], Mawlana ‘Abd al-Ghani [Dehlawi], Mawlana Ahmad Sa’id [Dehlawi], and Mawlana Imdad Allah [Muhajir Makki] etc.

He then travelled to Thana Bhawan, where he gave bay'ah (allegiance) at the hand of Haji Imdadullah in the Sufi path. He also studied under Muhammad Ghauth and was later an Arabic grammar student under Moulvi Baksh Rampuri. After studying for a while, he formed an opinion about her illness and told his uncle about it. Gangohi's Ulama in the philosophical sciences were Mufti Sadruddin Azurda and Qadi Ahmaduddin while his Ulama in hadith (narrations of the words and deeds of the prophet Muhammad), was Abdul Ghani Naqshbandi.

It was also common for graduates of the madrasah to attend Rashid Ahmad's hadith lectures in Gangoh.

In 1297 AH, after the death of Qasim, Rashid was made sarparast (patron) of Darul Uloom Deoband. As a result he decided to go to Thana Bhavan and debate them with the author. Then he studied grammar and syntax under Maulawi Muhammad Bakhsh Rampuri.

He taught the monumental work, Hidâyah more than 14 times. The government did not harm him in the least.
