George Zimmerman, who fatally shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. Dr. Wesley is the proud pastor of the historic Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA. He is only the eighth pastor in the church’s 214-year history of worshipping Christ while serving humankind.
Under Dr. Wesley’s extraordinary leadership, Alfred Street Baptist Church has grown from about 2,500 to more than 7,000 members, serving the community and members through 83 active ministries with an emphasis on children’s ministries and missions.
He received his doctor of ministry in preaching from Northern Baptist Seminary and is currently part of the inaugural cohort of the PhD in African American Preaching and Sacred Rhetoric at Christian Theological Seminary. Additionally, he was one of the 2013 recipients of The Root 100: A Who’s Who of Black America Award.

The Reverend Doctor Howard-John Wesley is the son of the late Rev. Dr. Alvin and Dr. Helene Wesley and represents the fifth generation of Baptist preachers in his family.

ABOUT
Reverend Dr.
Howard-John Wesley represents the fourth generation of Baptist preachers in his family. He attended the Boston University School of Theology where he was a Martin L. King, Jr. Scholar and a 1997 summa cum laude graduate concentrating on Biblical Studies and African-American religious history. He has also served as honorary chairperson for the African American Adoptions, Inc.
just to name a few. Wesley answered to the call of God while in medical school and thus quit his journey to a medical career to attend seminary at the Boston University School of Theology where he was a Martin Luther King, Jr. scholar and there, he graduated in biblical studies and African American religious history. He used this period of time to decompress, see a therapist who helped him sleep better and get more hours of sleep than the four hours he was previously getting, he started a diet, he learnt how to stay off social media and manage time with his phone appropriately., and then he bounced back.
After his first year in medical school, he yielded to God’s call once again and walked away from a medical career to attend seminary in preparation for serving God’s people.
Howard -John Wesley is a devoted and talented preacher of the gospel of Christ. Wesley is seen as one of the most prophetic voices of justice and grace in the history of Alfred Street Baptist Church.
