There was no longer a sense of personal autonomy. As he engages his visitors in discussions about the nature of spiritual freedom and the means by which it can be discovered, he is always looking for an opportunity to take his questioners back to the source of their minds so that they can find out for themselves, by direct experience, what he is trying to show them.

Papaji: Interviews

Papaji attracted thousands of western seekers to his satsangs in India.

Papaji gave David full access to all his papers, answered many of his detailed questions, and encouraged all his devotees to contribute stories to the project. Universal in his appeal, Moojibaba’s wisdom, compassion, openness and humour profoundly touch the hearts of those who meet him, thereby inspiring each one to find within themselves the deep peace, love and silence they recognise in him.

Mooji was born on 29 January 1954 in Port Antonio, Jamaica.

Here, Grace brought an encounter with a Christian mystic that caused Mooji to ‘walk out of his life’—an expression he uses to convey the profundity of that meeting. This connection prompted Mooji to travel to India, where, seemingly by chance, he was to meet his living Master, Sri HWL Poonja, also lovingly known as Papaji. At that time only about fifteen people would come each day, and all the satsangs were held in the living room of Papaji’s house.

In these conversations Papaji explains the practical teachings of his Master, Ramana Maharshi, in a simple and forceful way.

411 pages

After describing his later foreign trips, the focus of this third volume shifts to the stories of devotees who met him in India during the 70s and 80s. This 1,200-page three-volume account is unlikely ever to be challenged as the definitive account of Papaji’s extraordinary life.

Covers Papaji’s early years in the Punjab, his dramatic meetings with his Master, Sri Ramana Maharshi and other spiritual luminaries, his work as a mining manager, and his teaching encounters with South Indian devotees in the late 1960s.

India

This edition is on sale in the US via the Avadhuta Foundation. Mooji’s unsparing pointings to the Truth, through the method of self-inquiry, forms the essence of our work.

Mooji choicelessly dedicates his life to the calling of the Heart. 417 pages

Beginning with Papaji’s life in Rishikesh and his adventures in the Himalays in the late ‘60s and ‘70s, this volume moves on to describe the events of his first two foreign tours, and concludes with an illuminating record of teaching dialogues that took place in India in the mid-1970s.

As Mooji himself explains, “I was compelled to come here, led by an unseen presence, so that seekers may meet the real land-Lord inside their own Heart.”

.

Among the crowds, there was a sprinkling of scholars, journalists, therapists, and spiritual writers who conducted formal interviews with him. The capacity to guide them arose spontaneously in him.

The Fire of Freedom

This is a collection of teaching dialogues between Papaji and visitors who came to see him in Lucknow in the middle of 1991. In his own words he says, ‘I felt I was sitting on the lap of God. A deep peace and trust in the Supreme arose inside my heart and has remained to this day’.

Intrigued by this major shift in perception and wanting to merge fully in Truth, Mooji discovered the teachings of the great Indian saint, Sri Ramakrishna, whose utterances satisfied his heart deeply.

He later moved to Brixton, London where he lived for over 40 years. In open interactions with this great spiritual Master, seekers of Truth from all backgrounds and traditions are introduced to the direct path to freedom through self-inquiry and The Invitation—which is proving to be one of the most effective aids for true and lasting Self-realisation. Although Mooji’s presence carries a devotional fragrance, the words that spring from his being are of the nature of non-duality.

Several books have been translated into other languages: see Translated Books.

Nothing Ever Happened

After Papaji had read the account of his early life that David Godman had written for the Papaji Interviews book, he invited him to Lucknow to be his official biographer. It also contains a first-person account of Papaji’s life and realization.

Mooji is a true light in this world, whose presence, wisdom and loving guidance point us to who we are beyond the limitations of our personal conditioning and identity.

Papaji read and checked all the chapters, and most of them were read out by him during the daily satsangs that were taking place in Lucknow. It is this which has given rise to Monte Sahaja, an ashram and retreat centre being built in the south of Portugal.
