The two churches, members from both sides seem agreed, do not have much difference in doctrine and orientation. They have both been together for pretty long time and both share a father-son relation even though the older Pastor Adeboye is 82 years old while his ‘son’, Bishop Oyedepo, already clocked 70. So, let me say it loud and clear again that God has not told me who my successor is.
Indeed, many observers would wonder how two of the world’s most influential, famous and richest pastors would be so bonded together when they should be in competition.
The observer’s curiousity would naturally deepen when he realizes that both the Redeemed Christian Church of God and Winners Chapel, though very global in reach and presence are headquartered in Nigeria.
The Bishop refers to it from time to time in regular church services.

A few days ago, Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder and Presiding Bishop of thye Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel) celebrated his 70th birthday and it had all the trappings of the birthday celebration of a man regarded as one of the biggest men of God to come from this side of the planet.
However, for those who might still wonder about what binds the duo together, the answer came so freely and naturally last Sunday. So, 35 years ago, under God’s command, Pastor Adeboye laid hands on Oyedepo and he believes the unction is still speaking today.
That Oyedepo regards Adeboye as his spiritual father is not a new discovery among Winners.
The service which was parked with worshippers had over 300,000 congregrants broken into five sessions in attendance. “Let me share with you all why this man holds a very special place in my heart. He also prayed that in the next five years, when the Mandate will have turned 40, people will testify that the accomplishments of five years have surpassed those of 35 years.

At the beginning of this commission, God told me, I will have hands laid on you so you won’t go the way others have gone. One congregant told this reporter how Adeboye sent everyone laughing at a Shiloh programme when he said: “If the Bishop sends for me, who am I, an ordinary pastor, to say no?”
At the anniversary church service, Pastor Adeboye prayed for Bishop Oyedepo, his wife and children.
“It was at that point that he disclosed what binds them together. Some even said I would hand over to Bishop David Oyedepo, some said to Pastor Joe Olaiya because the two are very close to me that they do minister during our major events such as the conventions, Holy Ghost congresses and yet another quarter said one of my sons is the one succeeding me.
But I would advice you to always check sources of your information before believing such information and also to focus on whatever you are doing rather than spreading rumour.
In his birthday tribute to Bishop Oyedepo, here is what Pastor Adeboye wrote:
“Today, Mummy & I celebrate not just your life, but the incredible journey of faith, dedication, and service to God that you have walked. They share a bond that is deeper than what most people see. Happy birthday and God bless you.”
Between these two outstanding men of God who have earned for themselves global accolades that put them on a pedestal only dreamed by most men of God, there is an uncommonly close relationship that has surely stood the test of time.
So, Pastor Adeboye couldn’t have birthed a man as old as Bishop Oyedepo, yet, the relationship between them is akin to that of father and son because the younger Bishop Oyedepo sees Pastor Adeboye as his spiritual father. May His Grace over your life multiply, and may your influence for His Kingdom continue to grow beyond measure.
