12. What is your present state of mind? I am in a good space, energised, serene and blissfully creative.
3. We all operate on different energy planes, sometimes high, other times calm and almost surreal.
I love being part of their process—helping them unlock their potential. Because it seemed, for a time, that you had disappeared off the fashion radar.
Nkhensani: Well, as a business, we went through a metamorphosis. Stoned Cherrie is my favorite project.

Nkhensani Nkosi launched her fashion label Stoned Cherrie in 2000.
Whatever that energetic matrix or plane is, it’s always beautiful if one can tap into it for a beautiful result, which is what creativity is to me.
15. What was that moment for you?
Nkhensani: Oh, that’s a tough one—because there were so many. We’ve opened a new showroom in Cape Town and are launching a stronger online presence.

On the Future of Stoned Cherrie
Zam: So, what’s next for Stoned Cherrie?
Nkhensani: This is a period of renewal and rebirth. So my question is—do you think social media is, by design, suppressing individual thought and expression?
I would definitely go back to the theatre and writing or painting, which I was very passionate about.
18. Today, what I know is that faith should be the foundation for anything you do. When I was building Stone Cherry, I knew it would always be about a team. If we each performed random acts of love everyday, I believe we can change the way we see and relate to each other and ourselves.

And now, everything I do flows from there.
Zam: I’m often surprised by the caliber of people who say they’ve experienced imposter syndrome. It became clear that some of the things we naively thought we could do in the beginning weren’t as simple as we imagined. This conjures images and feelings of a soulless almost primal way of life.
That was surreal.
Signing a lease for The Zone in Rosebank—that was a defining business decision. High-flying, high-achieving individuals. She was selected from two hundred candidates from different fields as one of only six winners.
