Thank you to Kwame Akyeampong and Petrine Addae for your expert shepherding and leadership and your kind hospitality. He spent seven years leading global initiatives at Oxford and Cambridge Universities and since establishing his consultancy practice in 2015 he has worked across the non-profit sector with a range of UN agencies, international universities and NGOs in Africa and the Middle East.
Ranj believes that innovation and big-picture thinking are essential for realising the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
What a great example of merit and performance overriding political patronage, a rarity in Africa! He is passionately interested in exploring forms of deliver systems change that can transform education, health, child rights, refugee rights and conservation in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). We discussed Education.org's Education Evidence Pathway, it's proven track record of amplifying evidence in need of greater visibility and uptake; and, how it might complement ongoing efforts to achieve quality education for all Ghanaian children and young people.
Before meeting Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, I had learned (thanks to Mwalimu Google), that having been appointed deputy minister for education by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2017, he was promoted to full cabinet minister two years later having been voted the best performing deputy minister of the year by two Ghanaian research organizations: Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) and FAKS Investigative Services.
In 2012,he contested and lost the Meru County gubernatorial seat to Peter Munya, in a disputed election that was unsuccessfully challenged in court.
I am constantly fascinated by country partners who repeatedly share that - despite tremendous talent and resources for research - our collective inability to use what we already know is a massive challenge across our education sector, especially as precious resources may not yet be consistently put towards the best use.
More recently he has led fundraising and donor relations for the University of Exeter's Cornwall campuses.

Recently Dr. Mwiria has served as the senior advisor for education in the Executive Office of the President, Republic of Kenya. Of most interest for him are policies revolving around equitable access to quality education, governance and training. He has sat in Kenya’s parliament and served as the country’s Assistant Minister for Education and Higher Education, Science & Technology.
This attitude inspired him to start Global Leaders, so he could continue to focus on what’s new and emerging in the field, rather than relying on tried and tested methods.

Kilemi Mwiria’s Post
It was very refreshing interacting with an African Minister for Education who is acutely aware that the challenges facing his country's education system have to be addressed from a holistic perspective and that working solutions can greatly benefit from evidence-based policymaking.
Thank you, President Nana Addo Dankwa, Akufo-Addo for leading by example.
