Reddy did his basicschooling from Kothur, earlycollege from Nellore and graduated from Hyderabad. Early life and career
He was born on 22 March 1937 in Kothur village of Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh. The dam was constructed for optimum utilization of water from river Krishna.

Krishna Reddy’s career began at the young age of 21 when he took over his family’s construction business. Additionally, he leads GVK EMRI, an emergency response service provider operating under a Public-Private Partnership model. GVK commissioned another power plant at Kakinada, AP, to generate 469 MW power.
To further his business acumen, he pursued the Owner/President Management (OPM) Program at Harvard Business School in the USA. GVK Reddy is married to Indira Reddy and they have a daughter named Shalini Bhupal and a son named GV Sanjay Reddy.
GVK Reddy’s Early Career and Achievements
G.V. Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, the world’s largest masonry stone dam at the time of its construction, was built across the river Krishna in Nagarjuna Sagar, Nalgonda District of Telangana.
A key achievement in GVK Reddy’s career was securing the Jegurupadu power project in Andhra Pradesh for the GVK Group in 1990. Guided by his vision and leadership, GVK has successfully implemented projects in record time.
- GVK set up India’s first Independent Power Project (IPP) in the private sector at Jegurupadu, Andhra Pradesh to generate 217 MW power and added another 228 MW in the second phase.
Additionally, GVK Reddy demonstrated his support for cultural initiatives by contributing Rs 1 crore towards the construction of the Ram Mandir, showcasing his commitment to both community welfare and heritage projects.

GVK Reddy has achieved several significant milestones throughout his career.
This accomplishment not only elevated the company's status but also paved the way for international partnerships and national acclaim. Then he moved upstream to Srisailam Dam project which involved the excavation of foundation for a powerhouse on the right bank.
Reddy acquired majority shareholding in Hotel Banjara, a four star hotel and became the managing director and completed the project by 1976-77.
GVK was also the first to develop a brown field airport in Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.
