    1991 – The Philippine Congress passes Republic Act 7168 (An Act Converting the Philippine Normal College into a state university to be known as the Philippine Normal University). The bill was drafted by Senator Geronima T. Pecson and was lobbied with Senator Esteban Abada.

    Witnessing the event were PNC Prexy Dr. Gloria Salandanan, Sen. Ernesto Maceda, Sen. Edgardo Angara, Rep. Amado Bagatsing (Manila), Sen. Heherson Alvarez, Sen. Santanina Rasul and Rep. Carlos Padilla (Nueva Vizcaya). During his investiture the following year, he delivered his speech entitled “Charting the Road Map for New Challenges in Teacher Education.”

    2009 – The Congress of the Philippines passes Republic Act 9647 (An Act Designating The Philippine Normal University as the Country’s National Center for Teacher Education, appropriating funds therefor, and for other purposes).

    Republic Act 7168 converted the Normal from a college into a university. The reckoning year for the University’s conversion is 1992 and not 1991.

    Thus, on 11 January 1992, the PNC, by virtue of RA 7168 was elevated and granted the full status of a state university, and was thereinafter referred to as the Philippine Normal University.

    Members of the Class of 1942 are declared graduates.

    1945 – After the Liberation of Manila, some parts of the Main Building were left standing.

    It aims to provide practice for prospective teachers.

    1912 – PNS occupies the 3.7-hectare campus site on Taft Avenue corner Ayala Boulevard. The V-shaped three-storey Main Building is inaugurated after two years of construction.

    However, Executive Order 200 of 1987 requires the law to be published before it becomes effective.

    Three years later the Agusan and Cadiz, Negros Occidental campuses are completed. PNS closes. President Ogena implements the new structure.
