She received a BSC in political sciences from Bristol University, England in 1991, followed by MFA equivalent in film directing from the German Film & Television Academy, Berlin (dffb) in 1999. She currently lives in San Francisco and studies in Davis.

This interview was conducted by Google Doc in Davis in December 2018.

YY: You said you visited Christa Wolf in 2010, I wonder what made you interested about her work? They need a sensitive partner in their life. After that I came to Berlin to study at the DFFB (German Film and Television Academy), here I met Tsitsi Dangarembga, Wanjiru Kinyanjui and Auma Obama.

I have stayed in Berlin where I continue to make films and raise my children.

The decision to study film came from a desire to combine all my passions: painting, telling stories and directing actors, all of which I had enjoyed doing since I was very young.

They are creative and entertaining.

YY: Can you define the words “experimental” and “feminist”?

The newscast you refer to shows the effort on the part of the State to maintain the illusion of a cohesive democracy by holding elections.

YY: In your piece, you have long dialogue sequences with no images only a black screen, I wonder what’s your impression of these?

BO: CW did not want to be filmed I decided to allow her absence to manifest a presence by leaving the screen black.

YY: From 16’00’’to 17’19’’, why you choose some tree scenes as a hook to tell the story?

BO: The Golden Fleece that Medea helped Jason take from Colchis was hanging in a tree.

YY: During the last eight minutes of your film, you didn’t give the character’s full faces to the audience, you chose to use some part of their faces and then move on the other parts, what’s your intention?

"My name is Branwen Okpako and I was born in Lagos, Nigeria to a Nigerian (Uhrobo) pharmacologist father and a Welsh librarian mother.

I attended Atlantic College in Wales where I completed my International Baccalaureate, before going to University of Bristol where I studied Politics.

And why you chose the Greek story of Medea?

BO: I didn't choose Medea Christa Wolf did. She received the 2012 African Movie Academy Award for Best Diaspora Documentary(2012), the Festival Founders Award for Best Documentary at the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles(2012) and also the Viewers Choice Award at the Africa International Film Festival(2011) for her film The Education of Auma Obama.

what do these two words mean to you?

BO: Feminism and Social Justice are both good aspirations. Why or why not?

BO: To experiment is to test ideas. They will do all in their power to get what they want; they are uncompromising when they get into an argument. -»

Her graduation film Dreckfresser (Dirt For Dinner, 2000) won several international awards including First Steps: The German Newcomer Award for Documentary film 2000, IG Media Award (DOK-Leipzig) 2000, Distributions prize from sales 2000, The 24th Duisburg Film Week Award of the city of Duisburg for the best newcomer film Award, Bavarian State Government Documentary Award “The Young Lion” 2001, Best graduation film at the See Docs Dubrovnik festival 2001.

Her documentary-drama, The Curse of Medea (Fluch der Medea, 2014), about the life of the late German writer Christa Wolf, premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2014. They need friendship in their life.
