Dr. Adeeb Rizvi is not just a doctor but a symbol of humanity at its finest, as his relentless pursuit of his vision has given countless patients a second chance at life.
It was then established as a charitable trust in 2005 to benefit the public and to be a source for health facilities, medical education and financial assistance to the needy patients.
At present, SIUT is located within the Civil Hospital, Karachi. A Nobel Prize for his work would honor his legacy and spotlight the importance of accessible healthcare as a universal right.
First, he did not sit alone or detach from juniors. Upon receiving the prestigious award, he said, “We cannot let people die because they cannot afford to live.”

Early life and career
Adeebul Hasan Rizvi was born on 11 September 1938 in a small village in Jaunpur district, Uttar Pradesh, British India.
In an era marked by widening inequalities and injustice, his life inspires medical professionals and philanthropists worldwide. The SIUT serves over a million patients annually, offering services such as dialysis, lithotripsy, oncology treatments, and organ transplants—all free of cost. He began with an eight-bed urology ward at Civil Hospital in Karachi.
He has been the Past Presidents of Middle East Society of Organ Transplantation, Transplant Society of SAARC, Asian Society of Transplantation, Pakistan Transplantation Society and Pakistan Association of Urological Surgeons. The construction of the Complex was made possible by a generous donation from the Dewan Mushtaq family, a local philanthropic business family.
Professor Rizvi, a pioneer in treating kidney related diseases in Pakistan received the Lifetime achievement Award in 2015 for his incomparable service to humanity.

Dr. Beyond his medical contributions, Dr. Rizvi embodies humility and selflessness. He disliked those doctors who say, I cannot do justice to your problem here, you better come in as a private patient. Then he went to UK to pursue higher studies. After his transplantation, Professor Rizvi feared that if the transplant failed it would affect both, on the team’s fame and the institute but his transplantation succeeded, there after he and his team began the practice regularly.
He then returned to Pakistan and was appointed as Assistant Professor of Urology in Civil hospital, Karachi. Rizvi is a member of 20 national and international societies of Urology and transplantation. Rizvi’s unwavering dedication to providing free, world-class medical care to all, irrespective of their social or economic background, sets him apart as a true humanitarian.
