(Mrs.) Akunyili, a former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), died last Saturday, June 7, after a two-year battle with cancer.

Prof. Dora Akunyili, will start on Monday, August 25 with a night of tributes in Abuja at the International Conference Centre.

According to the programme of events released to the press by her husband, Dr.

Chike Akunyili, there will be a mass on Tuesday, August 26, at Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Cathedral, Garki.

The burial train will move on Wednesday, August 26, to Enugu where she spent a good part of her life for a burial mass at the Holy Ghost Cathedral.

Her remains will be interred at Agulu, her husband’s hometown in Anambra State on Thursday, August 28, after a burial mass at Madonna Catholic Church, Agulu.

A first class pharmacy graduate of the University of Nigeria, Akunyili died at the age of 59 in an Indian hospital two months ago after a protracted battle with cancer.

She was better known as the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, where between 2001 and 2010 she fought hard against drug counterfeiters and raised the consciousness of Nigerians to the need to watch out for fake and substandard drugs.

She was born to the family of late Chief Edemobi, a businessman of Nanka, Anambra State.

She married Dr.

Chike Akunyili of Agulu, a neighboring community. on Monday, August 25, while a Mass would be held for her at Pro-Cathedral Catholic Church, Abuja, by 10:00 a.m.

on Friday, August 22. (Mrs.) Akunyili, who was a delegate to the on-going National Conference in Abuja, would have turned 60 on July 14, 2014.

the next day (Wednesday, August 27), Dora’s body would be taken to UNCOMA Hall, College of Medicine, Ituku Ozalla, Enugu, for Final College Assembly to start from 11:30 a.m. Enugu, holding from from 4:00 p.m. the next day, August 26.

After the Church Service, Dora’s body would leave for Enugu, where there would be a Mass at KSJ Temple at 4:00 p.m.

“This has gone a great way in helping us to cope with the monumental loss of our precious gem, my beloved wife, Dora,” he said.

At last, the remains of former NAFDAC boss and Information Minister, Dora Akunyili goes home.

Others were – Governors Rochas Okorocha (Imo) and Isah Yuguda (Bauchi), wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Josephine Elechi, her Abia counterpart, Odochi Orji and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha.

Also in attendance were former Governors Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Peter Obi, Senator Chris Ngige, Virgy Etiaba, Minister of Information and Communications Labaran Maku, and Sen.

But for the meeting of the People’s Democratic Party in Abuja, the community would not have contained the crowd that came to pay their last respects to the late former minister.

However, that did not stop parties’ chieftains and other prominent Nigerians from honouring the deceased. Akunyili also expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their outpour of love and support for his family at this moment of grief.

The burial arrangement for late NAFDAC boss Prof. After a High Requiem Mass at Holy Ghost Cathedral Enugu at 9:00 a.m. From there, the body would be taken to Awka for Anambra State Government activities, then to Dora’s father’s house in Nanka, before being returned to her husband’s house at Agulu for a Vigil Mass/Wake-Keep.

On Thursday, August 28, Dora’s body would lie in state at John Chike Akunyili’s Compound before leaving for Agulu Town Hall, then Madonna Catholic Church Agulu for a Requiem Mass to hold by 10:00 a.m.
