When I worked on the Bill Bradley campaign after graduating from Duke, I was inspired by his challenge to be part of something bigger than myself and his reminder that change can be built from the ground up.
I began working at the Robin Hood Foundation, an organization dedicated to fighting poverty in New York City, a week before September 11, 2001.
His philanthropic and social entrepreneurial activities provided the background for his political activities. Despite challenges, including navigating complex political landscapes and implementing ambitious plans, Lurie remains focused on making San Francisco a better place. Following the devastating fires in the North Bay in 2017, Daniel and Tipping Point partnered with 90 Bay Area business and community leaders to organize Band Together – a benefit concert that raised $17 million for those hardest hit by the deadly fires.
Former Mayor Ed Lee selected Daniel in 2013 to lead the San Francisco Bay Area Super Bowl 50 Host Committee, an effort that brought over $240 million in economic impact to the region. We believed then and know now that the responsibility for making that happen belongs to all of us.

In September 2023, Lurie declared his intention to run for mayor against the incumbent, Mayor London Breed. He got his first significant involvement in public service after he was employed as a field organizer in Bill Bradley’s 2000 presidential campaign.
