    Chiang Kai Shek converted to Christianity and divorced his first wife in order to marry her in 1927. After the establishment of the provisional government of the Republic of China in Taiwan in 1949, she played a prominent role in the politics of the Republic of China as the wife of President Chiang Kai-shek. In 1945, she became a member of the Central Executive Committee of the Kuomintang.
