Muchinguri told a Zanu PF meeting in Chinhoyi:
"The coronavirus is the work of God punishing countries that imposed sanctions on us. In an audio recording Muchinguri is heard saying:

At independence, she was appointed Private Secretary to the President between 1980 and 1981.
Successful candidates are listed in bold. In December 2014, Oppah was appointed Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development. On 15 December 2017, she was appointed as the National Chairperson for ZANU-PF, becoming the first woman to hold this position.
In the March 2008 parliamentary election, Muchinguri-Kashiri ran as the ZANU-PF candidate for Mutasa Central constituency but was defeated by Trevor Saruwaka of the Movement for Democratic Change – Tsvangirai.
Muchinguri is a member of Zanu-PF and a member of their Central Committee and Politburo representing Manicaland Province. They have costed us. Later, in 2014, she briefly served as the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science, and Technology Development before transitioning to the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Climate in 2015.
Since September 2018, she has been serving as Zimbabwe’s Minister of Defence, where her responsibilities include overseeing national defence strategies and military policies.

Political Influence and Controversies
Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri’s influence within Zimbabwe’s political landscape is significant, particularly within ZANU-PF, the ruling party.
However, in November 2017Muchinguri revealed that she had been forced to resign from her position,
It’s unfair to say I handed it over. Their economies are screaming, just like they did to ours. Oppah’s first ministerial role came in 1997 when she was appointed Minister of State in the President’s Office, a position she held until 2000.

In 2005, she was appointed Minister of Women’s Affairs, Gender and Community Development.
Soon after, Muchinguri was one of the people appointed by Robert Mugabe in the cabinet reshuffle later that year. Muchinguri was passenger in a car crash that killed Tongorara on the eve of independence in December 1979 and it was reported the two were in a romantic relationship. In 2021, she again courted controversy by accusing China of conducting “botched experiments” that allegedly led to the global outbreak of the virus, a claim that was widely dismissed by health experts.

The Herald reported on January 3, 2009, that Muchinguri had been dismissed from the Cabinet earlier in the week, along with 11 other ministers, because she no longer held any seat in Parliament.
Politics
She ran as the ZANU-Public Finance candidate for Mutasa Central constituency in the March 2008 parliamentary election, but was defeated by Trevor Saruwaka, a candidate of the Movement for Democratic Change.
