During Smt. Satpathy’s tenure as the Chief Minister of Orissa, the State witnessed unprecedented growth in the area of Rural Development, Education, Art & Culture, Music and Women Empowerment etc. Mrs. Indira Gandhi, the then AICC president, was there to address the members. In March 2014 he resigned from the Congress party and joined the regional political outfit Aama Odisha Party (AOP).
She served two terms at the Rajya Sabha. In jail she met another member of the Student Federation named Sh.Devendra Satpathy who later became her life partner. The Congress party was unpopular in Odisha as a whole, due to its prior 15-year rule there (primarily under Janaki Ballabh Patnaik as Chief Minister). Her tenure ended within a year when Emergency was imposed on India

She has many compilations of short stories and translations to her credit. The issue later developed into a national youth movement. She was the eldest daughter of Padmabhushan Sh. Kalindi Charan Panigrahi, author of MATIRA MANISA (legendary Oriya book). At one point of time she was referred to as the next Prime Minister of India after Mrs.
Indira Gandhi. She served her second term from 6th March 1974 to 16th December 1976.

At a national level, there was a movement to have more women representatives in the Indian Parliament.Nandini Satpathy came from a highly respected and literary family.

He is the Chairman of Smt. Nandini Satpathy Memorial Trust (SNSMT).
