David Umahi, a prominent political figure, served as the Governor of Ebonyi State from 2015 to 2023. In the year 2011, Chief Umahi was chosen by His Excellency, Chief Martin N. Elechi CON as his running mate in the governorship election of Ebonyi State. His policies aimed to alleviate poverty and improve infrastructure, particularly in agricultural communities. While in Government Secondary School Afikpo, was made a Library Prefect.
He attended the Anambra State University of Science and Technology where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from 1982 to 1987.
Known for his focus on youth empowerment, he has initiated programs to promote entrepreneurship and reduce unemployment among young people. Known for his dedication to infrastructural development, Umahi transformed Ebonyi’s landscape with roads, flyovers, and public buildings that elevated the state’s reputation. Serving as governor from 1999 to 2007, Egwu’s tenure focused on human capital development, especially in the educational sector.
As a former member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Orji championed policies focused on improving education, healthcare, and rural development. He was also a part time lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He led the defunct Ebonyi State Movement, a group that waged a successful decade-long campaign for the creation of Ebonyi State.
Julius Ama Orji
A respected politician from Abakaliki, Julius Ama Orji has played an instrumental role in the state’s legislative framework. A School Prefect at Mary Knoll Secondary School Ogoja in 1959, School Prefect of Holy Family College Abak in 1961, he was also the Treasurer of the Nigerian Students Union, Leopoldville in 1965.
Lazarus Ogbee
Lazarus Ogbee is a former member of the House of Representatives for Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency and has been active in various political roles in Ebonyi State. He proceeded for his Secondary Education at Mary Knoll Secondary School Okuku Ogoja in Cross River State where he got his West African School Leaving Certificate in 1959.
His contributions to media and information dissemination have enhanced public awareness of government policies in Ebonyi.
