During the legislature she obtained the position of general secretary of the Socialist Parliamentary Group.

On June 19, 2018, she was elected president of the Council of State, replacing José Manuel Romay Beccaría; she took office on July 5.

Fernández de la Vega became a member of the Council of State and had to renounce the act of deputy for Valencia as they were incompatible positions.

Before her are Jaume Balagueró (1968), José Guardiola (1930), Elvira Lindo (1962), Francisco Aguilar (1949), Federico Chueca (1846), and Oleguer Presas (1980). From 1982 until 1985, she was the director of the advisory cabinet of the minister of justice, and in 1985 she was appointed general director of services at the ministry of justice.

In 2012 he created the Mujeres por África foundation, which he has chaired ever since and which works with the same objectives. Before her are Schafik Hándal, Diosdado Cabello, Dan Coats, Policarpo Paz García, Ram Vilas Paswan, and Félix Paiva. Her father, a Law graduate, was a labor inspector and labor delegate during the Second Republic and during the Franco regime, in Albacete (1937-9) and Zaragoza (1955-63), Medal of Merit at Work (1971).

It became effective on October 19, being succeeded, on an interim basis, by the president of the First Section, Miguel Herrero y Rodríguez de Miñón, until the appointment of a new owner. The second edition was held in Madrid, the third in Niger (2008).

In 1986 he was a member of the Council of Europe Committee on Legal Cooperation.

Training and academic career

Fernández de la Vega graduated in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid in the early 1970s and traveled to Barcelona, where he prepared his doctorate at the Central University of Barcelona.
