Francois Hollande, the President of France since May 2012, has been a party activist since 1979.
He attended some of France’s most prestigious institutions, including Sciences Po, HEC Paris, and finally the École Nationale d’Administration (ENA)—a training ground for many of France’s future leaders.
At ENA, he met Ségolène Royal, a fellow student and future presidential candidate, who would become his long-term partner and the mother of his four children.
While Merkel promoted austerity, Hollande advocated for growth-led recovery. A lifelong member of the Socialist Party, Hollande built a career defined by steady persistence, social reform, and a commitment to public service, even amid mounting political challenges. Hollande and Royal live together in a civil union and have children.
In 2008, he released his first televised stand-up special, John Oliver: Terrifying Times, on Comedy Central.
There, he studied English and graduated in 1998. Hollande took on the task of defending his position as the First Secretary of the French Socialist Party (FSP) and simultaneously increasing his wife's chances of becoming a candidate in the upcoming presidential elections.
