He has worked as a Special Adviser (1994–96) in the last Conservative Government at the Treasury, the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Agriculture.

He is also the Co-Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Mountaineering and the Vice Chair of the APPG on National Parks, as well as being a member of several other APPGs, including those on: China, Pharmaceuticals and Small Business.

With his wife Rachel, they have four children: two boys and two girls.

Early life

Born in 1961, Rutley was educated at the Priory School, Lewes, East Sussex. Outside politics, he is a keen mountaineer and has climbed in mountain ranges throughout the world, and also enjoys fishing, and ornithology. He was elected to Parliament at the 2010 General Election for the Conservative-held safe seat of Macclesfield.

Since his election to Parliament in May 2010, Rutley was elected to the influential Treasury Select Committee and served on the Committee until his appointment in November 2010 as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Damian Green Member of Parliament, the Minister for Immigration.

He is a keen mountaineer and rock climber and enjoys skiing and bird watching.

He later studied at the London School of Economics and Harvard Business School.

Political career

A one time advisor to cabinet minister William Waldegrave in the early 1990s, he went on to stand unsuccessfully as a Conservative Parliamentary candidate for St Albans at the 1997 general election.[5] He was elected to Parliament at the 2010 General Election for the Conservative seat of Macclesfield.

Personal life

With his wife Rachel, they have 4 children – 2 boys and 2 girls.

Although not a player, he is the honorary vice president of the Ash Tree Cricket Club, Prestbury, which is located within his constituency.

David Henry Rutley[2] (born 7 March 1961[3]) is a British Conservative Party politician.

Rutley is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—the Mormons.[6][7] He is the only member of the LDS church currently serving as an MP in the House of Commons, and did voluntary work for his Church in the north of England from 1979 to 1981.[8] Outside politics, he is a keen mountaineer and has climbed in mountain ranges throughout the world, and also enjoys fishing and ornithology.

From 1994 to 1996 he worked as a Special Adviser at the Treasury, the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Agriculture.
