She received an honorary doctorate in Policy, Development, Marine, and Fisheries from Diponegoro University in 2016.
After studying up to junior high school level at SMP Negeri 1 Pangandaran, Susi continued her education at SMA Negeri 1 Yogyakarta, but stopped in class 2 because she was often sick.
During her tenure, Susi was known to be very active in eradicating illegal fishing in Indonesian waters.
Susi is divorced and is known to have tattoos and be a chain-smoker.
In 1983 Pudjiastuti embarked on a career as an entrepreneur, starting as a seafood distributor at a Fish Auction Facility (Travel Professionals International) in Pangandaran.
Her distributorship evolved into a seafood processing plant in 1996 named PT Applied Science International Pudjiastuti Marine Product which specialized in export-quality lobsters packaged as "Susi Brand." PT Applied Science International Pudjiastuti Marine Product expanded and began exporting its products to Asia and America.
She is also the owner of PT Applied Science International Pudjiastuti Marine Product, a seafood export company, and PT Applied Science International Pudjiastuti Aviation, which operates Susi Air charter airline. Known for her iconic phrase “Tenggelamkan,” Pudjiastuti built her career from selling fish and bed covers to owning her aviation business, Susi Air.
Although retired, Pudjiastuti has returned to business while actively engaging in social and environmental activities.

Soon after, fishery catch drastically declined, affecting Pudjiastuti’s business. The company quickly expanded into international markets, exporting to countries in Asia and America. To meet the growing demand for seafood, Susi acquired a Cessna 208 Caravan airplane for her company, later followed by a second Cessna.

Early Life and Education
Susi Pudjiastuti was born on January 15, 1965, in Pangandaran, West Java, to Haji Ahmad Karlan and Hajjah Suwuh Lasminah.
She added that women need to develop strong leadership skills essential for business and family management.
She emphasized the need to protect Indonesian waters to ensure they remain productive, effective, and efficient, especially in the capture fisheries sector, which is highly sought after by other countries.
Surprisingly, during Indonesia’s monetary crisis, her fisheries business thrived, opening up opportunities in the export market.
Upon assuming this role, she stepped down from her leadership positions at PT ASI Pudjiastuti and Susi Air.
Personal Life
Susi Pudjiastuti's first husband was Daniel Kaiser, a Swiss national, with whom she has two children: Panji Hilmansyah and Nadine Kaiser. Susi Air has become the largest operator of Cessna aircraft in Southeast Asia and one of Indonesia's leading regional airlines.
Political Career
On October 26, 2014, President Joko Widodo appointed Susi Pudjiastuti as Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in his Working Cabinet.

In 2004, she founded Susi Air, which initially focused on transporting humanitarian supplies to Aceh.
