Who is Marco Polo?

Marco Polo was a renowned Venetian explorer who gained fame for his detailed accounts of his travels across Asia, particularly in his famous book, "The Travels of Marco Polo".

Little is known of Marco Polo's life after his return to Venice. His death marked the end of a remarkable life, but his legacy as an explorer and chronicler of the East lives on through his writings and their influence on exploration. He shared his cell with a writer named Rustichello, who helped Marco turn his stories into a book.

Early Life and Education

Marco Polo was born in 1254 in Venice, Italy, into a wealthy merchant family.

The information contained in his maps has proved remarkably accurate when tested by modern methods. Finally, the khan changed his mind.

RETURN TO VENICE

In 1292, Kublai Khan asked Marco to escort a Mongol princess to Persia. He was famous for his adventures, and as a result he was treated with unusual courtesy for a prisoner and released within a year.

Its popularity endured, ultimately influencing trade and exploration.
