In 1762, Bach travelled to London to première three operas at the King's Theatre, including Orione on 19 February 1763. Legare Street Press, 2022 (original 1885). Johann Christian gave to society through his work and thus both he and England benefited from his creativity. They had no children.
Johann Christian Bach died in London on New Year's Day, 1782.

He was the only one of Johann Sebastian's sons to write operas in the Italian language, starting with arias inserted into the operas of others, then known as "pasticcios." The Teatro Regio in Turin commissioned him to write Artaserse, an opera seria that was premiered in 1760.
He accepted the London opportunity and traveled there in 1762. by Clara Bell & J. A. Fuller-Maitland). This probably has less to do with their relative quality (since the music of the latter is clearly accomplished and worthy of being heard) than with their relative historical positions regarding the classical symphony. It is clear that the listener of J.C. Bach's symphonies should come to these works with different expectations from the ones he or she brings to those of Haydn or Mozart. This may be one reason why it is difficult to find points of obvious comparison between Johann Sebastian Bach and Johann Christian.
After his father's death, when Johann Christian was 15, he worked with his second-oldest half brother Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, who was twenty-one years his senior and considered at the time to be the most musically gifted of Bach's sons.
He enjoyed a promising career, first as a composer then as a performer playing alongside Carl Friedrich Abel, the notable player of the viola da gamba.

In 1760 he was made deputy organist at Milan Cathedral and in 1761 appointed kapellmeister at the Church of Santa Maria di Caravaggio.
