Amalia Pica is a leading contemporary artist known for her interactive sculptures, installations, and performances.
Her works defy categorization, and instead, invite viewers to explore the poetics of communication and participation. For her exhibition at Chisenhale, Pica also focused on the gallery space as a public site, works were situated in areas usually excluded from the arena of exhibition display. Through her works, Pica encourages collective action and encourages viewers to explore the power of communication and dialogue.
The exhibition elaborated on Pica’s interest in the social act of listening, sites of celebration and technologies of mass communication. One notable aspect of Pica's works is their interactivity. Her performances and viewer-activated works examine how civic participation and social forms can provide opportunity for creative expression and can even act as a form of resistance within oppressive social systems.

Amalia Pica's Offsite project I am Tower of Hamlets, as I am in Tower of Hamlets, just like a lot of people are, 2011–2012 has completed its rounds of Tower Hamlets, and returned to the gallery on Saturday 30 June to join the rest of Pica's exhibition which continues until Sunday 15 July.
On 7 July 2012, as a celebration of the sculpture's return, curator and writer Isobel Harbison was invited to Chisenhale Gallery to discuss the work with Amalia Pica.
The 2002 site-specific installation bathed the building in a bright yellow light, in reference to the misconception.
