Luthra once said that her journey has taught her a number of lessons that have been life-altering in many ways. Vandana Luthra, Founder, VLCC Group, made her entrepreneurial debut in 1989, by opening a Wellness & Beauty services centre in New Delhi, India, which seamlessly integrated dietary modification and exercise regimen-based weight management programs with cutting-edge skin and hair treatments.

It has its operations up and running in 326 locations across 153 cities in 13 countries in South Asia, South East Asia, the GCC region and East Africa.

Vandana has become a symbol of hope, empowerment, and achievement for countless aspiring entrepreneurs, especially women. The company’s impressive growth has led to its acquisition by Carlyle Group for ₹2,500 crores, while its current valuation stands at ₹4,500 crores. Vandana’s story is one of grit and vision—one that continues to inspire aspiring entrepreneurs everywhere.

She had the vision to start an outlet for health and wellness in India. Lead managers of its 322 outlets across 12 countries are exclusively women. She says that the Indian government is very keen on supporting women to grow and become entrepreneurs.

The National Skills Development Corporation and the Ministry of Labour are working consistently toward improving the fitness and beauty sector.

Women comprise over 70 per cent of the VLCC Group’s 3,000-strong workforce. She started getting a return on her investment too.

She once said that she approached her work scientifically and started working with doctors from the first day of her work. The organization worked tirelessly to help the poor, and Vandana grew up witnessing the profound positive impact it had on people's lives.

She once said that when she started her business back in the 1980s, there were hardly any women entrepreneurs. However, convincing doctors to work with her on health and wellness was tiring at first. It took her a long time until finally, a few agreed. Seven out of ten department heads in the organisation are women. She was first appointed as the chairperson of this sector in 2014.

Even medical professionals were initially hesitant to collaborate with her. She continues travelling across the world to understand their needs regarding wellness. Vandana Luthra’s journey from modest beginnings to building a multi-crore wellness empire is a perfect example of how self-belief, resilience, and determination can transform dreams into reality.
