Steven’s leadership top tip is to encourage leaders to think about those moments where they’ve had a particularly tough period at work and reflect on the actions they took that helped them navigate through it.
We speak to the new CEO of Barclaycard Business Solutions about “shaping a business of the future.” http://barc.ly/2uF0pgg
Steve is an inspiring leader to work for and it will be exciting to see the next chapter of innovation from Barclaycard. These difficult moments are great learning experiences and leaders can benefit hugely from transferring some of the skills they’ve developed in really tough times, across to how they operate as a leader in more normal times.

Specialist lender Aldermore raids UK’s oldest bank for new chief
One of the banks born from the ashes of the 2008 financial crisis is raiding Britain’s oldest privately owned lender for its next chief executive.
Sky News has learnt that Steven Cooper, who runs C Hoare & Co, has been persuaded to jump ship after less than two years to become the next boss of Aldermore, the specialist lender.
City sources said a formal announcement could be made as early as Tuesday.
Mr Cooper will replace Philip Monks, Aldermore's founder, who announced earlier this year that he planned to retire in 2021.
His arrival will come during a frenetic few months in which Britain's banks will have had to contend with the end of the Brexit transition period and the continuing fallout from the coronavirus crisis.
Aldermore provides loans to UK-based small and medium-sized companies, as well as mortgages and savings accounts.
At the end of last year, its lending to customers stood at £12bn.
The company became part of FirstRand Group, the largest financial services group in Africa by market capitalisation, in 2018.
Its recruitment of Mr Cooper will come as a surprise to the industry because he has only run Hoares since January 2019.
A Barclays veteran, he held a string of roles at the FTSE 100 lender, including running its operations in east Africa and then its retail bank in the UK.
Responding to an enquiry from Sky News, Pat Butler, Aldermore's chairman, said: "I am delighted that Steven has decided to join us at Aldermore.
Earlier in his career with Barclays, Steven led Personal Banking for both UK and Europe and has also led UK Business Banking and businesses for Barclays in Africa, India and offshore locations. He also led on community investment and diversity programmes for the UK.
Steven is a passionate advocate for social mobility and a regular speaker and media commentator in his role as Co-Chair of the Social Mobility Commission; the body responsible for promoting social mobility in the UK.
He has served on a variety of Boards, with previous appointments including: Teach First; the Financial Services Compensation Scheme; the Government’s SME task force; the FCA Practitioner Panel; and the Sussex Royal Foundation.
An alumnus of Harvard Business School, Steven was awarded an honorary doctorate from Herriot Watt University in 2019 for services to banking and social mobility.
