Graduated from FAU – Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of São Paulo in 1960, architect Ruy Ohtake imprinted his unique language on more than 300 works carried out in Brazil and abroad.
In addition to his architectural work, Ohtake continues to create art, often incorporating elements of architecture into his paintings. He has had several international solo and group exhibitions and his work is featured in many important public and private collections. His international recognition led him to be part of the select group of invited architects at the 20th Congress of the International Union of Architects (1999) in Beijing, alongside Jean Nouvel and Tadao Ando, to deliver one of the main lectures at the People’s Assembly, which brought together 6,000 architects.
In his architecture, he blended technological research, attentive to our construction industry, with refined and original plasticity, and considered that architecture is completed when the work is built. Ohtake's main creative medium is painting, although he also works with embroidery and gouache. His works often explore the contradiction between traditional and modern notions of art.
Thanks to this, his work achieves the difficult success of being both authorial and sensitive to our conditions and needs.

In design, Ruy Ohtake developed a significant range of objects, including three washbasins for Roca, for which he received the Best of the Best Red Dot award in 2019 in Essen, Germany.Praised by Oscar Niemeyer for his plastic freedom, Ruy Ohtake’s design is imprinted on the streets and avenues of important Brazilian and international cities.

Son of Japanese artist Tomie Ohtake, Ruy Ohtake is known for his unusual architectural designs.
Committed to creating contemporary Brazilian architecture, with innovation as a principle, Ruy Ohtake managed to leave his mark on projects for various purposes: public works, schools, cinemas, theaters, apartment and office buildings, and residences.
In Brazil, he won the Golden Collar, the highest honor of the Institute of Architects of Brazil, in 2007.
During the 60th anniversary of FAU-USP in 2008, he was the architect invited to exhibit in the large space designed by his mentor Vilanova Artigas. He is widely regarded as one of Brazil's most important contemporary architects and artists, and his work continues to inspire and influence others in the field.

Ruy Ohtake is a prominent Brazilian architect and artist, born in São Paulo in 1938. He majored in Architecture in 1960 at the University of São Paulo.
Ohtake has been married twice: first to Brazilian actress Célia Helena, who died in 1997, and later to architect Silvia Vaz.
