The Scottish National War Memorial at the Castle, Edinburgh. Lorimer had already established a reputation as one of Scotland’s leading restoration architects following the restoration of Earlshall in 1899 and Hill of Tarvit in 1905, both in Fife. Architectural Review vol.
Examples of these cottages include ‘Westfield’, 40 Pentland Avenue and ‘Binley Cottage’, 42 Pentland Avenue. Lorimer managed to impart an essence of Scottish spirit in all he designed and was an ardent nationalist.

Collingwood, Robert.
From the age of 14, family holidays were spent restoring Kellie Castle in Fife, on which his father had taken a lease. Architect’s Journal vol. This was something that would strongly influence his early architectural work.
On leaving university, Lorimer initially worked for the architect Sir Robert Rowand Anderson, and then in 1893 set up his own practice.
