John was known for being a great woodworker, in which he took his time to perfect craft. In addition, he loved his cat, Sheba. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

Captain John Bracken Retires

Captain John Bracken was hired by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office as a Detention Officer in October 2000. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his three brothers, Arnold Gray Bracken, Thomas Lee Bracken, and Cecil Owen Bracken; and one sister, Brenda Wolfe.

Captain Bracken earned several promotions throughout his career with his last promotion to the rank of Captain on December 12, 2020. John David Bracken, 86, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Village Care of King. He was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church where he served as an usher and a choir member. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office wishes Captain John Bracken all the best in his future endeavors.

John served in the Air Force from 1956 until 1960. He was born May 28, 1938, in Forsyth County, NC to the late Robert Clay Bracken and Treva Forbus Bracken. and the Special Response Team. Throughout the course of his career, Captain Bracken served in various capacities within the Law Enforcement Detention Center, Investigative Services Division, Judicial Services Division, Professional Standards Division, and Field Services Division.

Captain Bracken served in the U.S. Marines for four years of active duty. John loved his family and always wanted them to be around. He served on S.W.A.T.

Mr. At the time of his retirement, he was the Captain of the Field Services Division. A funeral service will be conducted 6pm Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Pastor Greg Hall officiating.

In addition, he took pride in taking care of his nieces and nephews. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Danny Bracken, Lanny Bracken (Kathy) Dianne Ziglar (Mark), Scott Bracken (Cindy), Tanya Oxendine (David), Terri Browder, Robbie Bracken, Gregory Bracken, and Karen Wolfe; and numerous extended family.
