Lois Ehlert, the Wisconsin author and illustrator, was born in 1934 in the city of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin.
She would cut out each piece individually. It involves cutting out pieces of paper, fabric, or other objects and gluing them onto a background.
Lois studied English and psychology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Once she had a topic, she did research to learn more. and found objects into her imagery. Her father had a workshop in their basement.
She received an Honorable Mention from the National Outdoor Book Award (Children's Category) in 2005 for Leaf Man, which was also awarded the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award in 2006.
Color Zoo is one of her more famous books.
She used things like scrap wood and nails to create art! Using paper, textiles, and found objects, she creates vivid collages that break the boundaries of traditional formats and designs, bringing joy and wonder to her picture book audience. He had materials like scrap lumber and nails. Leaf Man won the Boston Globe–Horn Book Award, Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf was a Boston Globe–Horn Book Honor Book, and Snowballs was a Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year (all Houghton Mifflin Harcourt).
Lois Ehlert has also retold and illustrated folk tales from other lands and has created art for books by other authors.
