English Poetry in India: A Secular Viewpoint. Das was also a syndicated columnist. Though Das failed to win a place in Parliament in 1984, she was later successful as a syndicated columnist (Raveendran 53). Some of her fiction pieces from the 90s in Malayalam includes Palayan (1990), Neypayasam (1991), Dayarikkurippukal (1992), and Chekkerunna Pakshikal (1996).

She candidly addresses the complexities of human relationships and the challenges faced by women in patriarchal societies.

Kamala Das made significant contributions to both English and Malayalam literature through her poetry, prose, and translations. She is one of the few major voices in modern Indian poetry in English.
