WNO's Spring Season Arrives In Milton Keynes

Welsh National Opera brings Spring 2022 Season to Milton Keynes which features Mozart's Don Giovanni and Janáček's Jenůfa. Staged without an audience in strict compliance with the latest health and safety government guidelines related to COVID-19, the competition takes place from June 12 – June 19, 2021 at St.

David's Hall in Cardiff. Other noted productions include Monteverdi's Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria (Lisbon), The Turn of the Screw (Salzburg) and the British première of The Magic Fountain by Frederick Delius (Scottish Opera).

In 2006, he became General Director of New Zealand Opera, working there until to 2014.

Welsh National Opera’s General Director Aidan Lang will step down at the end of this year following four years in the role and more than 40 years working in opera globally. He will take up the role in early January 2024.

Each will be vying for the chance to be one of the five who will progress to the competition Final at Birmingham Town Hall on Monday 5 December, 2022. He also heralded the opening of a $60 million opera center in Seattle.

Prior to his post in Seattle, he had stints at Opera Zuid, Buxton Festival, New Zealand Opera (where he was also the General Director), and Glyndebourne.

From there he headed back to WNO in 2019 to take over its top position where he headed a digital program during the COVID-19 lockdown and continued his interest in bringing new opera to the stage.

“For me, like so many others, WNO is where my opera career truly began, and it has been an enormous privilege to head up this wonderful Company,” Lang said in an official press statement issued by the company.

At one point in time, a Seattle Opera ticket offered a relatively predictable experience: an enchanted night out, a grand presentation, and often a familiar telling of a popular work.

Beginning in August 2019, she replaces Aidan Lang, who will become General Director of Welsh National Opera following the end of the 2018/19 season.
