Over the years, Zakharova has been invited as a guest artist to perform with various ballet companies around the world, including the Paris Opera Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, and English National Ballet. She skipped the second class and went straight to the graduating class which was the only case in the whole history of this educational institution.

Biography

People’s Artist of Russia, laureate of the Russian state prize, prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, étoile of La Scala, Svetlana Zakharova was born in Lutsk (Ukraine).

However, Zakharova declined the offer.

In the following years, Zakharova continued to expand her repertoire, dancing leading roles in ballets such as "Giselle", "La Bayadère", "Serenade", and "Jewels". Having spend six years in the class of Valeria Sulegina, she took part in the international young dancers contest “Vaganova Prix” in Saint Petersburg, where she was the youngest ballet dancer.

Staying strong in the pursuit of her goals, the ballet dancer continues to expand her repertoire with the modern pieces and programs. Under her guidance, Zakharova debuted as Maria in “The Fountain of Bakhchisarai”.

At the same time she starts to receive international recognition. Her global fame is rapidly growing. She also takes part in DVD-recordings of “Swan Lake”, “Bayadère” and “Giselle”.

Instead of starting on the expected second year, she was admitted directly into the graduating class, under the tutelage of Elena Evteeva, a renowned ballerina from the previous generation.

In June 1996, Zakharova graduated from the Vaganova Academy, performing the pas de deux from Tchaikovsky's "Balanchine's Tchaikovsky Suite No.

3" at the graduation concert. As a result, Zakharova was offered the opportunity to continue her training at the Vaganova Academy in St. Petersburg. A recording of this ballet was issued on DVD. Gradually Zakharova was introduced into every piece of the Bolshoi’s classical repertoire, into the ballets by one of the greatest choreographers of our time, Yuri Grigorovich.

Petersburg stage in recent years. She was immediately accepted into the ballet company of the Mariinsky Theatre, and on June 21, 1996, at the age of 17, she made her debut as the Dying Swan in a Mariinsky Ballet concert at the Hermitage Theatre.

During her first season with the Mariinsky Ballet (1996-1997), Zakharova danced the role of Princess Florine in "The Sleeping Beauty".
