Still, fans can expect to see him pop up in a more relaxed, possibly creative role that allows more time for his passions like golf and photography.

They don't make things like they used to. He makes it fun with some of the jokes. what a pity-party way to start an article. Sadly, they are no longer in business.

He moved from Bristol, Connecticut, to Denver in 1982, trading an early role at ESPN for a new adventure in Colorado, a state he’d only known from books and TV.

That gamble paid off.

“My first stop, once I hit town, was 9NEWS – the ‘old building’ – at 1089 Bannock St.

I didn’t know anyone really, but I was excited … and terrified.”

Since then, he’s become a Colorado icon whose voice is inseparable from the state’s sports history. That’s still the big question.

Tom has yet to reveal exactly where he’s headed next, but he made it clear in his farewell post that he’s not leaving Colorado.

In fact, he is just stepping away from the relentless pace of a 24/7 newsroom.

He wrote,

“I’m not leaving … not going anywhere.

I’m just signing off, for now.”

He hinted at a few ongoing projects and expressed uncertainty about whether or not he’ll work full-time again. He returned to the station in October 2017 after working for 15 years at KWGN in Denver.

“I drove from Bristol, Connecticut, to Denver in the very first days of 1982.

So, here I am 43 years later … and now, it’s time for something else.”

In 35 years in Colorado, he’s done everything from play-by-play sports to hosting an ESPN game show called Sports On Tap. He’s also covered sports for KMGH and did 3 years of sports talk radio at The Fan with co-hosts Doug Moe & Dan Issel.

He said he has a couple of projects he has been working towards, “but I’m not sure how much (or even if) I plan to work anymore.

Music is more confusing nowadays than ever.

And a lot of the people you're used to in popular culture seem to be retiring or sadly, having their lives come to an end, seemingly more and more frequently.

In his own words, Tom thanked the people of Colorado for welcoming him, supporting him, and growing with him through four decades of dramatic change in news, sports, and life.

“Thanks to so many people I’ve had the chance to work with and get to know over the years.

None of the new shows are as good as the old ones.
