It chronicles the evolution of skateboarding in the late 70s and through the 80s, the development of tricks such as the ollie, the caballerial, the mctwist, the general climate and lack of acceptance of skateboarding, the transition from pool skating to other types of vert and street skating, the personal struggles some of the Bones Brigade team members went through, and the inspirational triumphs this group of young teens experienced in the 80s.

It has been a while since i found myself reminiscing about my own young teen years but this film made me do exactly that, a mixture of thinking about friends and the freedom that skateboarding brought. Craig shrugged and simply said, "Bones Brigade."

Powell Peralta reinterpreted a military motif, warping it with pioneering skateboard graphics more suited to biker gang tats than decks.

I cannot tell you how compelling this documentary is. Through the power of camaraderie, dedication, and sheer determination, they evolved from uncertain outsiders into influential figures in the world of skateboarding. George Powell and Stacy Peralta created Powell Peralta and immediately began retooling how skateboard products were made and marketed.

George, who had started developing products in his garage and kitchen oven, went on to invent innovative equipment such as double radial Bones wheels, named for their unique whiteness, and trend setting skateboard decks.

Watching this movie is like traveling back in time and reminds me what life is really about.

I knew the bones brigade movies and have always followed skating.

The documentary focuses on Rodney Mullen, Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Tommy Guerrero, and Lance Mountain, along with their Bones Brigade coach/mentor/father-figure, Stacey Peralta.

For anyone who like skateboarding, this is a must-see. He emits honesty, passion and eloquence which a lot of others don't. Also the human trials and emotional difficulties of a team of kids coming of age and the pressures of competition and fame when the only thing they truly care about is skating with their mates.

I started skating when i was about 10 in the street revolution of skating when bones brigade videos were released.

The music is good, the atmosphere is very positive and information value is definitely higher compared to other documentaries that try to chronicle the history (of parts of it) of a sport.

But at several points the film just drifts away into over-self-glorification adding neither emotion nor information.

Ties EVERYTHING together in the world of skateboarding

I grew up in the 80s worshiping some of the pro skaters like Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, and Christian Hosoi. Words like his are hardly ever found in your typical average sports documentary.

What is again great about a Peralta documentary is that he has obviously done his homework, providing tons of historic material and weaving it together in a manner that is easy to digest and pick up.

If you were born between 1965 - 2000, even if you don't care about skateboards you should watch this movie.

It tells the story of the most influential skateboarding crew of all time from the mouths of the skaters themselves. But in the end it is very recommendable chronicle not to be missed, especially from skateboard fans.

Who ever wants to see the "other side" of skateboarding from that time period is well advised to see "Rising Son - The legend of skateboarder Christian Hosoi" - it has much lower production values but explains pretty well that skateboarding was more than just boyscouts having fun.

A must see truly inspirational movie, especially if you're a skater.

Covers the pioneering and determination progression of skating into the bedrock foundation of what we know today.

His comparisons and metaphors citing Beethoven and Franz Kafka shine so bright that the following comments from other interviewees just fade. By 1984, Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen, Steve Caballero, Lance Mountain, Tommy Guerrero and Mike McGill compiled the most competitively dominant skateboard team in history. As great a skater as Stacy was, his scouting skills surpassed any celebrated onboard skills.

Stacy recruited the skaters and handled marketing along with his longtime creative cohort Craig Stecyk III. Rejecting the expected action shot marketing, they used their young team to create esoteric images conveying the culture's sarcasm and disenfranchised dark humor.
